About

Thanks for checking out my website, where I share my thoughts about video games, the games industry, and gaming culture. I’m not an industry-insider or anything like that. I’m just a lifelong gamer who continues to enjoy playing games and loves to talk about them with others. I hope you’ll find some content you enjoy here, and will join me in talking about this wonderful hobby.

Commonly Asked Questions

Q. Are you really a professor?

A. Yes, in fact. I am a full-time university professor, with a Ph.D. and all.

Q. How long have you been playing video games?

A. My entire life, basically. I was born into a household with an NES, and grew up with that, a SNES, and a Sega Genesis that I shared with my siblings. The first console that was “mine” was an N64. So, I played many systems and games growing up, and my love for this hobby has never died.

Q. What are your favorite games?

A. I’ll be writing some blog posts about my favorites, but to list just a few: Super Mario Bros. 3, Mega Man 2, Donkey Kong Country, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Red Dead Redemption, and The Witcher 2/3.

Q. Why have this blog?

A. Two reasons:

  1. Honestly, because I can. I love playing games and talking about them with others who are passionate about this hobby. Even if very few people ever read my posts here, it gives me a chance to share my thoughts and potentially engage others in conversation about games.
  2. Modern video game discourse is so often full of negativity, animus, and vitriol. From my perspective, this is absurd – we all love games and should embrace the hobby and others who care about it as much as we do. So, I hope to provide a unique, intelligent, and rational perspective on games and gaming culture, and share that with others who want to engage in mature and reasoned discourse about video games.
